Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan establisher of the UAE

Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the establisher of the UAE (1918- 2004). He was the first president of United Arab Emirates and the ruler of Abu Dhabi. He was born in 1918 in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi and was elected to be the president of the country and the Chief of High Union Council.

Brief History

  • 1946 he became the ruler of Al Ain City.
  • 6th of August, 1966 became the Ruler of Abu Dhabi.
  • 21st of October, 1969 he was elected as the ruler of the nine states union (including Qatar and Bahrain).
  • 2nd of December 1971 he was elected the president of the UAE.
  • In 1999 he was awarded the Environment and Development Figure.

The Union Maker

Sheikh Zayed with Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum the ruler of Dubai, put together the main pillars of this union by uniting their two Emirates, Abu Dhabi and Dubai, then invited the rulers of the rest Emirates to join this union and they agreed on the 2nd of December 1971.

Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf or Gulf Cooperation Council, (GCC)

Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Jabber Al Ahmed Al Sabbah Ruler of Kuwait were sharing the same idea of having a council for all the Gulf nations before it comes true on 25th of May 1981 in Abu Dhabi.

Zayed’s Death

H.H Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan died in November 2, 2004 and was succeeded by his son H.H Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi.
